All-India Forum for Right to Education (AIFRTE)
Notice Dated 15/07/2014
Dharna at Shastri Bhavan on 18th July 2014
from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m
Greetings! This notice/appeal is addressed to the members of National Executive residing in Delhi and member/associated/allied organizations and groups of AIFRTE having base in Delhi. AIFRTE would like to congratulate all comrades for a successful culmination of our joint struggle against FYUP. However, the threat to the sovereignty of the nation, democratic rights of the people and social justice still looms large because the neo-liberal policies are continued with more vigor under the new regime. Therefore, we need to carry on the struggle with added commitment.
We had earlier organized a March to Parliament and Jansansad on 21st October, 2013. Thereafter, we had also prepared an educational manifesto in context of the general elections of 2014 and given it to all national parties. As you know, AIFRTE from its inception (2009) is striving to build mass awareness and bring pressure on the ruling powers both in provinces and at centre.
National Executive of AIFRTE is meeting in Delhi on 18th to 20th of July to discuss the plan of All-India Shiksha Sangharsh Yatra (SSY) to be prepared and organised before the end of the calendar year, 2014. Thus, we are planning to build a nationwide mass struggle and awareness on issues of education. We take this opportunity where representatives of education movement for genuine right to education from all over India are gathering, notwithstanding that they are fewer in number, to submit a memorandum to the Government of India expressing our disapproval to the policies of commercialization and communalisation of education and our proposal for a democratic education system and more so demanding redressal of burning issues of the students, teachers and karmacharies.
All members of the National Executive of AIFRTE who come from different provinces and UTs will demonstrate on Shastri Bhavan on 18th July from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m and present a memorandum to the Union Minister for HRD. This is to appeal to all member and associate organisations of AIFRTE, either Delhi based or Delhi chapters of all India organisations, mobilize their comrades and interested persons in good numbers in solidarity to this demonstration at Shastri Bhavan. We would like to use this occasion to distribute leaflets amongst common people in the area around Shastri Bhavan and nearby Central Secretariat metro station for drawing their attention to the burning issues of education. We also propose that you/your organisation also distribute the leaflet in your areas of activity.
Memorandum and leaflet are under preparation and will be made available very soon. However, given the limited time available, please do not wait for the copy of memorandum and handbill; and start mobilizing comrades as the issues to be listed there are mainly those that were focused upon in the March to Parliament on 21st October, 2013 and in the Election Manifesto of Education (2014) plus some recent issues. The main objective of this demonstration is to highlight the twin dangers of commercialization and communalization of education; demand for withdrawing the offer of higher education from GATS and six bills on higher education; checking growing inequalities in education; implementing measures of social justice forthwith; and redressal of other long pending issues of education in India. Please assemble at Shastri Bhavan gate No. 2 (near Central Secretariat Metro Station) at 10:30 a.m. with banners of your organizations and placards.
